Panel Proposal for Conference on Metal and Cultural Impact: Metal's Role in the 21st Century

Seeking contributions for a panel on Heavy Metal in Africa. This interdisciplinary panel should include papers on a variety of topics related to the role of Heavy Metal Music in Africa. Topics can include, but are not limited to:

• Spread of Heavy Metal Music in Africa
• Religion and Metal in Africa
• Creation of Heavy Metal “scenes” across the continent
• Perception of Metal as “deviant” behavior in Africa
• Influence of Metal in African music or influence of African music in Metal
• Economics of Metal in Africa
• Metal in the African Diaspora
• Race and Metal

Please submit a 300 word abstract to Roy Doron at Winston-Salem State University at doronrs@wssu.edu by April 25th.
